Something ugly this way comes
OMG! I've just been brainstorming over the best idea, ever! EVAR!!!

Boring laptop, huh. At first I thought, hey, let's just get a colourful decal from DecalGirl or Shtickers or something, but then,

this.

WHITE MOONBASE ALPHA LAPTOP IT IS WHITE AND SPACE AGE AND HAS GREEK LETTERS IN IT SO IT MUST BE HI-TECH AND NERDY. So, so, that's a bit much, a bit too 3D, a bit more show than use, but the space station idea's awesome. And I. Just. Love. The. Keyboard.

SO LET'S MAKE ONE OURSELVES, AND EVEN BETTER, WOOO!

So first I was thinking, huh, how about a white top and an industrial, textured sticker in the middle to spice it up a bit. Then saw this and was inspired. ROCK ON THE STENCILS. Spent like, four hours trying to find some good ones, failed miserably as all stencils are apparently of bluebells or horrible Victorian acanthus leaves, and decided to make one myself. Think I'm going with the Star Trek logo, simple, chic, retro, right? Mum wrinkled her nose at the idea of the Great Luke Ski on my computer, had to rethink that, but I still think the stencil's awesome, and it took me long enough, too.

Lovely long-legged Luke, WHO'S THE DADDY??? Maybe I'll make a t-shirt out of it or something. Or put it on my Physics file. We learnt about spray paint for GCSE, so I suppose it would be half relevant.

I'll take off the keys, couple, triple coats of white spray paint, done, right? 'Cept, the paint'll cover up the letters, so I was looking all over the place for some keytop stickers, found some yellow and black, found some Spongebob Squarepants, found some transparent, found these. Flipping SPACE AGE. STAR TREK ITSELF. OMG, HOW MUCH COOLER COULD IT GET. Picture's of white, I'm getting black, it'll look amazing.

...Probably.

So, iPod's pretty much bust, but I'm too psyched about this idea to be too bothered. Gonna see SOAP with Dad tomorrow, see if I can drag him to the craft shop too to get the stuff I need, thinking of buying roller skates, things are just fine, fine, fine. Slightly over the top because of not sleeping as much as I should, but dude. I hope this customisation works out okay and I don't screw up and the laptop doesn't work anymore. That would kinda suck.

But if I do pull it off, I'm totally pimping it to people in school and insinuating that if they wanted theirs customised, someone's happy to oblige, well, for a price.

Oh yeah, in my dream last night, a reaper gave me a piece of frayed green string in my grandparent's house and told me I was gonna die painfully, eaten by huge lizards with sharp pointy teeth. Spent the rest of the night trying to figure out how to save myself from said terrible fate. And then there was something about infiltrating a spa, some wizard chick and climbing up a wooden elevator shaft.

Whatever.

ART AND CREATIVITY! :D

I love it, and I sooo want mine customised, and I have ideas how, but I wanna see how yours turns out...
And be careful because in the experience I've had of spray-paint, (limited as I'm not exactly a graffiti artist) might it not accumulate in the gaps between keys and stick them together? Though using only a little should be fine, and it'll probably be better than my own ill-advised ventures into arts-and crafts.
I love the stencils!

Tell me about weird dreams. Last night featured clearing up horse manure with my bro, then having to climb through the bottom shelf of a bookcase that was blocking the doorway. And it also, I'm ashamed to say involved a few late night, scantily clad trysts with Ed T. Not proud of that!

yeah, i wanna see how mine turns out, too! <:O don't worry about the spray paint, i'm removing all the keys and painting them separately, then sticking them back on. when i paint the body of the laptop i'll put some cardboard and masking tape over the hole where the keys used to be, as well as any other sensitive areas i wouldn't want to get paint in. should be okay. and if you really want to know, i had a dream recently about you and mrs. horrigan, reliving the good ol' biology days of yore. you an' me were partners, duh, and of course not paying attention while horrigan paced up and down in front of the class and picked people to draw pie diagrams on the board. suddenly she goes, has everybody brought their kische?, and looks straight at me like she always did at prep-handing-in-time because we both know that the chances are i hadn't done it. you quietly go, oh whoops, and it becomes apparent that i missed last lesson, and you forgot to tell me that making a kische was our prep. so horrigan and i have an argument, i inevitably lose but am proud that i've irritated her, and i end up having to attempt to draw pie diagrams on the board with katie. i was going to say my dreams are much more mundane than yours, but horse manure? XD

omg, i just wrote you the longest comment in history and of course that's when the computer decides to delete it all when i click 'post'. seems like it doesn't need spray paint in the works to screw up.

anyway! keys sticking together shouldn't be a problem, 'cause i'm removing them from the keyboard and painting them separately, then sticking them back on. when i'm painting the mainframe, i'm going to cover any sensitive areas which shouldn't be messed around with (eg usb ports, speakers, touchpad and keyboard) and hopefully avoid royally messing up.

dreamswise, i had a dream about you recently. involving you, me, horrigan and a kische. i'd missed last lesson and you forgot to tell me that we were meant to bring in said pastry for prep, and i hadn't, so horrigan and i had a battle in my head which resulted in her being pissed off (and me being smug) and me having to do stupid pie charts on the black board while katie salter did the same thing next to me at lightning speed, because she's just a damn good mathematician.

huh. X)

Hehe pastry for pie charts? Oh I do love how your mind works Shlafers... Sorry I forgot to tell you about the prep, was probably too busy gleefully shovelling patry down my gullet. :) I also had a dream about you a few nights ago, where you were sitting in this netted kids' ball pen, on the Dover-Calais ferry, and refused to come out. Sitting there among the balls, pouting. Typical!

Oh ok, I hoped you were gonna remove them - might be a little interesting if you just started spraying paint here there and everywhere!

IF it works I'd quite like a few stencils on just the top of mine. But that's planning ahead too much. Although I have specific ideas.

I love the link you gave to Laura. Magritte? Also reminds me of The Thomas Crown Affair. Can't remember why though...

that's 'cause of the AWESOME putting-the-picture-back-where-it-was-before scene and the millions of guys with bowler hats and briefcases streaming through the gallery. it was that picture that was stolen, wasn't it?

anyway. X) i love the way i'm represented as a pouting juvenile in your subconscious. excellent!

and tell me, what were you going to have on your laptop? just out of interest, of course. ;)

Also I totally love the red one with the white bits, and the white with the red flower: http://www.schtickers.com/catalog/index.php?cPath=31

I want everything on that website - the Van Gogh one (my dad has a copy of that pic in his room at surgery which he says he shows to mentally freakish - i'm so pc- people, and asks them what they think as some kind of test...anyway!)

oh, stickers, huh? then sadly, you don't need me at all. :) they're easy to put on, apparently, and just as easy to take off without residue, so you can continually apply-and-reapply until the sticker suits however anally perfectionist your idea of it happens to be.

and awhn, van gogh. somebody give him a hug. :(

Good lord, that's amazing. Fantabulous! Also, lol at moonbase link. And the keys are delightfully nerdy.

Personally, I'd be terrified of getting spray paint in the keyboard...

and also: "Designed for serious skaters looking for a lightweight 4 wheel skate with long wheelbase (285mm) for serious training and exercise."

explain the difference between the ones with a single line of wheels which are much harder to balance on and the ones who have two rows of nice fat wheels. and which have you got? and pads, god yes.

(Reply to this) (Parent)(Thread)

[info]yoshime
2006-09-01 07:48 am UTC (link)
the ones with two sets of wheels are the classic "quad" rollerskates (we &hearts you wikipedia) and are the ones i first rollerskated on. they're a lot more stable than in-line skates, and even standing up is much easier. cool people like acrobats, Carrefour shop assistants and genies use them.

Mr Spock, however, is using in-line skates. these are the ones i have. these things are hawt, but sadly also very hard to use effectively. i'm just hoping practice , perseverance and pads are the cure. they're a lot more like iceskates, and some of the principles are the same. if you learn to rollerskate, i'm sure you'll find iceskating a piece of pie.

..think that's pretty much it. :)

(ZOMG COME JOIN THE ROLLERSKATING CLUB).
